Putin about Xi Jinping: He looks to the future

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has highlighted the forward-thinking and reliable qualities of Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is an objective and reliable partner.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping as a respected leader who knows how to look to the future in an interview with China's Central Television. Putin stated:

"He is, of course, one of the most respected heads of state in the world. He does not make short-term decisions based on a current economic situation. He assesses the situation, analyzes and looks to the future. That's very important, and that's what separates a real international head of state from the people we call temporary heads of state, who come to power for five minutes to show themselves on an international platform, and then disappear just as unnoticed."

The Russian president emphasized that the Chinese head of state is a completely different type of personality. He added:

"He is thorough, calm, but a no-nonsense and reliable partner. If I agree on something with him, I can be sure that the agreement will be fulfilled, by both sides."

Putin pointed out that the meetings with Xi Jinping during his visits to Russia always took place in a businesslike and friendly atmosphere. He concluded:

"Therefore, I hope that this tradition will continue even now that the upcoming meeting in China is planned."

The third "One Belt, One Road" forum will take place in Beijing on 17 and 18 October. Russian and Chinese leaders are expected to hold talks during the forum.
