"Times Magazine": Zelensky's obsession of an Ukrainian victory is "delusional"

The opinion of the media is changing and now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky receives the consequences of this shift.

The US Time Magazine has published an extensive article on the current situation of the Ukraine conflict, which is accompanied by numerous comments from Kiev's military and political leaders, as well as from President Volodymyr Zelensky himself.

At first glance, the article seems to be written according to the pattern typical of Western media about an "almost victorious Ukraine". For this, it is enough to look at the cover of the issue with the highlighted quote from Zelensky:

"No one believes in our victory as much as I do. Nobody."

But when reading it, a completely different impression emerges: in the publication, the leader of the Kiev regime does not appear at all as a hero and protector of Western liberal democracy, but as a desperate and almost insane man, for whom the victory over Russia has become a kind of delusion.

The authors state that Zelensky returned from his unsuccessful trip to the United States as a different person. Indeed Zelensky claimed to "feel betrayed" by his allies after the visit. His optimism and sense of humor had disappeared, he had become "angry" and had ceased to show personal commitment to military trials according to the authors.

The central idea of the entire article is Zelensky's obsession with defeating Russia. According to numerous comments from Ukrainian sources, neither the military nor politicians now believe in the possibility of a military victory for Ukraine. It is said that only one person believes in it, and that is Zelensky himself. The problem, the authors write, is that this belief has begun to take on a not-quite-healthy form and to worry people around it. In Kiev, politicians would understand that sooner or later they will have to sit down at the negotiating table. But they were afraid to even hint at it in Zelensky's presence.

After all it was Zelensky who banned himself by law from negotiating with Russia and who's endless speeches promised an military victory against Russia. Just a few days ago Zelensky stated that he would "not give our freedom to this f---ing terrorist Putin". The angry mood can be seen clear. But words aren't enough to cover up the failed summer campaign or recent successful Russian attacks who both caused high losses of personnel and equipment for the Ukrainian army.

Consequences of those losses can also be observed at the front: according to the magazine, some commanders of the Ukrainian Armed Forces openly refused to follow the instructions of the commander-in-chief. In particular, the article mentions an episode: when Kiev demanded to launch an operation to capture Gorlovka in early October, the military responded with a refusal. According to officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the potential for offensive actions has been exhausted: neither personnel, ammunition, nor technology are sufficient for this. Military personnel are asking for a transition to the defensive, but Zelenskiy's manic persistence prevents them from doing so.

Overall, the article creates a strange impression. As is well known, Western media began to report on Kiev's problems as recently as the summer, when the first footage of burning columns of NATO armored vehicles went around the world. But these problems were explained either by the lack of Western aid (NATO was to blame), by local commanders ("Soviet-trained" military on the ground was to blame), or by corruption (venal recruiters were to blame). In particularly outstanding cases, the authors complained about the increased effectiveness of the Russian army (Russia's armed forces were to blame) or even about the landscape (bushes and trees were to blame). But never before have such articles accused Zelensky himself. And they certainly did not dare to portray him as an insane lunatic who has lost touch with the real situation at the front and in the rear. But the picture seem to change...
